Charleston Blooms | Spring in SC

Sarah Weisbrod

Spring in Charleston is easily one of my most favorite times of year! It's when everything really starts to come alive - flowers begin to blossom all over town, there are people out and about, and rooftop/outdoor dining season is upon us (without being unbearably hot!). The blooms here in Charleston are one of my most favorite parts about spring. Wisteria starts to take shape, roses begin to climb up the palmetto trees around colonial lake, and jasmine seems to peak around Charleston's colorful homes.

Perhaps one of my favorite weekend activities is taking a leisurely stroll around the downtown historic district with Duke and soaking up all of Charleston's beauty! Every time we take a walk, it is surprising to uncover another hidden gem of a home or garden - Charleston really does have the quaintest little streets! Rainbow Row and Tradd Street are definitely my top picks when it comes to colorful houses and doors. And let's not forget Charleston has the most beautiful parks! From Waterfront Park with the famous Pineapple Fountain, to Hampton Park and it's abundance of Spanish moss and wonderful flowers! You really can't go wrong when finding an amazing place for an afternoon stroll.

Duke and I usually like to start our spring weekends with coffee and biscuits at  Callie's Hot Little Biscuit and spend some time shopping King Street before venturing further downtown for some exploring! King Street is especially fun on Second Sundays - the second Sunday of every month; where the street completely shuts down and vendors and visitors alike spend the day shopping, mingling and eating outside!

There are so many cute rooftop bars that allow you to sit, have a drink, and really take in the city from a different viewpoint.  The Watch, with it's beautiful view of the church steeples and Ravenel bridge is definitely a favorite! After we are all walked out, it's nice to sit outside and enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of our favorites, Leon's Oyster shop! If we feel up to it, we end our day down by the Battery enjoying a perfect sunset!

Does anyone else get sad (read: devastated) when it’s time for the Christmas tree to come down? I don’t know about you, but it’s one of the worst feelings for me! November and December is a time filled with such joy and festivity, and when that all comes to an end, it can feel a little abrupt.
