Nautical life runs deep through our family heritage dating back to 1760, where my ancestors set a high standard in ship building and sail making in Mystic, Connecticut. Today, we carry on that same tradition in Maine as we craft a unique and rugged line of nautically inspired products, which include Maine's BEST lobster Rope Doormats!

Every product that we create here at STERNLINES tells a different story as to where the rope and material originated from.  Although the patterns may be similar, no two are ever the same! Often times, what ends up on your doorstep or dock was just reclaimed here in New England a few short days or weeks prior to its arrival at your home!

Years ago I lived in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and met a handful of lobstermen.  Always taken back by their true character and passion for their profession, I kept in touch with many of my lobstermen friends as time moved on.  The rope they use to haul traps is usually worn after a season or two and generally ends up in a landfill as it has no real use to a lobstermen anymore. I was amazed by the colorful material and thought to myself,  others should be able to see the beauty behind its back story out of the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, we now travel coastal Maine from Kittery to Machiasport gathering and reclaiming old rope and sail canvas. Since 2012, we have reclaimed and recycled over 100,000 lbs. of Maine lobster rope that would have ended up in a landfill. As our product offerings expand into other reclaimed goods and classically styled apparel, we are thrilled to grow STERNLINES as a family based endeavor that helps our environment and sets a good example for the next generation.
